It's almost beyond belief how certain individuals find themselves at the center of multiple high-profile tragedies and controversies. Take John Pelletier, for instance. This former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department captain was the incident commander during the horrific 2017 Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting, where 59 innocent lives were lost, and over 500 were injured. Fast forward a few years, and Pelletier is appointed as the police chief of Maui, Hawaii, just in time to oversee the devastating Lahaina fire on August 8, 2023, which claimed 102 lives. One might start to wonder about the sheer improbability of such a career trajectory.
