Out of Time
World Health Organization (WHO) member states had until Dec. 1 to reject the following proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) that critics warn will grant the WHO more power.
The pandemic treaty is not something that member nations must opt into. It’s an opt-out proposition. Nations that failed to opt out before the deadline, automatically accept the treaty. Countries that have opted-out of the treaty thus far are: Burundi, Tanzania, Slovakia, and New Zealand.
The United States failed to opt out and is now considered to have ACCEPTED THE TREATY and the terms listed below.
Based on the current timeline, the World Health Assembly (“WHA”) will vote on the pandemic treaty in May 2024, and it will take force 30 days later.
